Hawaii Five-0 1.6 Ko’olauloa Recap

The episode starts at a surfing competition… something Hawaii is quite famous for. Kono is hanging out in the water on a board. We learned in a past episode that she was on the circuit until she was injured. Her friend Ian wipes out and when they pull him out of the water to resuscitate him, they find he is dead, shot through the chest.

Steve and Danno lock down the beach to investigate and Steve quickly decides it must have been a sniper shot and that Ian (the CEO of the largest surf brand) was the target. His wealth means there are many potential suspects.

The 5-0 team figures out where the shot was fired from and Steve and Chin Ho take dirt bikes to the location to scout it out. They find a bullet casing and signs of Kupo members who try to preserve Hawaiian traditions and lifestyles against foreigners. After searching for members who have had trouble with the law recently they find two with records against them and Ian was the star witness for the prosecution. Steve and Danno go to the leader of the Kapu and he and Steve almost tussle but in the end they make nice, learn that the Kupo was friendly with Ian, and get a line on the two guys they are looking for. That turns out to be a dead end though.

Kono goes to find Ben, one of Ian’s other star surfers and they spend the day going down memory lane. Ben has some very unflattering stories he shares about Ian and his own father (who was Ian’s business partner). After remembering some of the good times they start to kiss but are interrupted when motorcycle thugs invade the camp they are at. Kono tries to subdue one of the attackers but he gets away. Ben runs to his tent to grab a rifle and runs the attackers off.

The next day Chin Ho finds out that the land the tent city is situated on was in hot demand by corporate interests. The front runner in a bidding war was a company owned by Ian. Kono decides she has to bring Ben in for questioning and at the same time Chin Ho finds out that Ben was recently named as Ian’s beneficiary in his will only days prior to the shooting. Ben had two motivations for wanting Ian dead and Kono tells Ben to turn over his rifle.

Kono managed to get a partial plate from the night before and this leads Steve and Danno back to the two ex-Kupo thugs from the previous day. When they decide to visit the pair a wild chase ensues. This leads them to the killer, who was contracted by Ian’s business partner.

A pretty good episode with many twists and turns. I give it 3 out of 4 hot surfers.

  1. to say that of the bubble … for sure it wouldn’t hurt to well just still let CBS & yup local tv stations … and too, that of o’yes… that of the cable system too letting them know.. for sure couldn’t hurt…

um, lets just say that it can be of well.. ok this is a bit over the top and out of left field too, yet… its like around here there is a bridge that originally was the bridge to get across a bit of water thats for sure the nices bit of wild water… and yet well a newer one was built next to it… and the older one upkeep was not so much. yet in short there are plans to add to the new one.. and of the older bridge… simly became a bike & walk over when that newer one took over.. and well in short.. to say word had gone around that old bridge chances were far from even fair… and yup in short letting thoses incharge and yes w/ no vinergar included… that the bridge is right now getting a full and total fix up and will come in April of next yr.. re-open.

ok long of short… letting thoses of like CBS know , & too the stations … can for sure let them know that we want Hawaii Five-0 to keep on going, and going & goinggggggggggggggg!…

  2. I can’t wait for Hawaii 5/0 each week .I used to watch Castle but not since Hawaii 5/0 started. I love to see Alex, the show is great. CBS had better not drop the hawaii 5/0. It is a very well written and even better acted show. Alex and the whole crew is doing a great job. It’s terrible but I don’t think it is dirty enough for the younger crowd. I think it is Great I love the show. I guess they need more bedroom scens to get the young crowd intersted. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ALEX WE LOVE YOU….

    1. It’s sad that people will not watch a show because it’s isn’t bloody enough or with enough sex. I canceled HBO because of the filth that was shown on their site 👿 . I liked Moonlight and now H50 because it’s a good story, excellent acting, and decent for a family viewing. Our world is being bombarded with the sorrid that has desensitize people’s minds to the point that they grave the filth. Sorry for our world. :bandit: The horrible shows are destroying and erroding our values.

  3. TO REPEAT: If anyone wants to make comments, for good or bad on any CBS show….and CBs “owns: Alex….go to Google or your internet and type “CBS COMMENT” the site will come right up and you and type anything you want in it… they thank you, but don’t have any feedback. I guess they have them all on someone’s desk figuring out what’s what. Freedom of speech.!

    1. I don’t see how Hawaii Five-O can be on the bubble. The show has been given a full season. Five -O wins its time slot. The TV Guide even congratulated Hawaii Five-O for getting a full season, too. That doesn’t sound like a bubble show…..

I saw HBO’s Boardwalk Empire in this list and that has to be wrong as Boardwalk Empire has already been renewed for a second season. I love this show!

    2. suzanne faith, thanks for another way to it. so there is 2 ways…

http://www.cbs.com , bottom of page click on “FEEDBACK”. & u’re there too!

either way.. what matters is simply letting CBS know and of in yes a polite manner of … w/out any vinergar included.of course.. and that of simply.. Hawaii Five-0 to stay right where it is… and too… ok this is old fashion… and yet thank you included.. for sure won’t hurt either. right?

o’ asnd there is another way… and too it wouldn’t hurt either to of well if you can that is of letting the tv station that every week brings it to you… that of letting them know too.. and yup… keep the vinergar out… and yup.. again a simple thank you to them … for taking the time to speak w/ you… also for sure won’t hurt too.. right?

      just a thought.

  4. I WAS JUST BROWSING ABOUT 10 OR 11 SITES ABOUT HAWAII FIVE O BEING “ON THE BUBBLE”!!!!! WHAT????? FIRST OF ALL I DIDN’T THINK THAT “BUBBLE;; STUFF STARTED UNTIL THE SERIES WAS ALMOST THROUGH FOR THE SEASON AND DID NOT SEE ONE SENTENCE SAYING THEY WERE IN TROUBLE. THEY HAVE BEEN TOUTED AGAIN AND AGAIN ON TV AS BEING THE #1 SHOW?? WHAT GIVES…..THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY KNOW TOO MUCH OF WHAT THE PUBLIC WANTS. GIVE THE SHOW A CHANCE……ALEX WOULD BE CRUSHED, US FANS WOULD BE CRUSHED……I SURE UNDERSTAND HIS COMMENTS ABOUT “IF THIS DOESN’T GO OVER HE DOESN’T KNOW WHAT THEY (i GUESS TV VIEWERS) WANT. WE LOVE YOU ALEX..OUT WITH THE NEGATIVE, IN WITH THE POSITIVE. IF I SEE ONE MORE DISGUSTING CSI SHOW AND ONE MORE STUPID “REALITY” SHOW I’M GONNA SCREAM!!! you can tell I’m upset!!
Love from Suzanne Alex’s Forever Fan

  5. Tiffany I just read on the TV Guide site that Hawaii 5-0 is on the “bubble” despite the fact that it brings in 11 to 14 million viewers each week and that the only thing Alex is good for are the action scenes and taking his shirt off -don”t know if this is just one person’s opinion or if Hawaii 5-0 is really on the bubble because the show’s last remaining episodes were picked up. What have you heard?

    1. Yeah I would say it is on the bubble. It has so-so reviews and they aren’t getting enough of the exact demographic they want. The viewers are good but not amazing. They have also gotten spanked a couple times by Castle. The only thing they are kicking butt in is DVR numbers and that is not something that will make advertisers super happy because it means people can skip over the commercials. H50 has to be VERY expensive as well, so this show has to do better than their others to make it worth it. After football is over we will have better data but H50 is not in the clear by any means.

  6. Thanks for the link Rosemary. Looks like tonite’s episode will be pretty exciting! Only one comment about Alex’s grey hair–looking good!!

  7. Yes, it’;s been there for a while. He said in an interview ages ago he had slight grey in his hair. I like that he isn’t trying to hide it. Perhaps he will go grey early like George Clooney.

    1. yup that slight hint of grey in alex’s hair ..of um..well only um, addeds of to well… um, down to earth handsome indeed. :

      1. the clip…Hawaii Five-0 – Behind the Scenes of Ho’apono
        Clip 1:37…
        http://www.cbs.com/primetime/hawaii_five_0/video/?pid=Uj01sGY_Lxlp2c14F5_AL_nSEkll39Sq&vs=Default&play=true

o’& as to the line scott’s/danno’s.. as to “aquarman”…um, like throw in sort of speak series entourage/ scott’ (not mistaken storyline-wise a movie same name) or just happened to of well……? umm.

  8. Just watched the promos for #7 again and noticed that there seems to be a little gray in Alex’s hair or maybe it’s the lighting but whatever it is, it’s very sexy. Check it out and see what you guys think, it’s the longer 1:30 version of the promos. Alex looks so hot, as usual.

  9. Thanks Rosemary! If I didn’t know better I’d say Alex was a real Seal–he sure looks the part. I wonder if he did the underwater shots. Can’t wait for Monday!

  10. Thanks, Rosemary for the hook-up, episode #7 looks like it’s going to be the most exciting one yet, and it looks like is primarily about McGarrett – Loved the one promo where Danny says to McGarrett “good luck Aquaman” – that made me laugh. You guys need to check these out. Can’t wait until Monday night! 🙂

  11. check out cbs.com newest clip under videos.. Hawaii Five-0 – Preview: ‘Ho’apono’… photo/ alex & swim mask. check it out!!!

  12. So sad to hear about James McArthur’s death today. He was the original “Danno” and a darn good one as I remember… I was very young but remember he was good looking and cute and did a lot to make Jack Lord look more ‘human” and gave the story more interest. I know the producers of the current Hawaii Five o wanted him to guest star on the present show…he was 72. Didn’t say what he died from God bless him…hope he enjoyed some of the new show before he passed.

  13. I am so glad I read these comments. I thought I was the only one who had trouble understanding sometimes what they are saying. But I am in love with the show. So beautiful. I wanna be there. Was there once years ago. Beautiful, time of my life. Thank you Tiffany. Love to Alex.

    1. My favorite part of this last episode was the surfers spreading of the ashes at Waimea Bay. This episode took place at North Shore, which is the surfer (REAL surfers) hangout on Oahu. I would liked to see Alex on a board–I bet he surfed in Australia and LA but there has never been any mention that he surfs. Hawaii is–as Alex said–paradise. (Sigh!) I’m getting homesick–need to go back soon. And all the more reason now that Alex is there!!

  14. Cybl: I know there is SO much stuff that goes into making or breaking a TV show and so many “numbers and facts” by all these dandy analytical people but it still makes me more than sad to think of our Alex being put in a spot where he isn’t getting his full share. Believe me, Castle is good. I started watching it before Hawaii Five 0 the cast and story lines are great. Nathan Fillian the star aint no sexy Alex but he’s cute and funny. Ahhh, it will all work out…I’m not in the most positive mood this a.m. sniff…sniff….. Love to Alex Always

  15. Cybl: the Star Advertiser can go take a big jump in the lake. All these whys and wherefores about shows that will or won’t make it make me upset. I was afraid from day one that Hawaii Five O being opposite Castle would be a problem cause I record him and watch Hawaii Five O. Giving them both credit. Then theres those freakin football games….urggggh!! I guess its called “nothings easy” But I as wrote on that site (and you have to jump through hoops to make comment!!!!) Hawaii Five O will make it, we ladies will make sure of it AND if for some godforsaken reason it doesnt’ Alex will come out on top in the final analysis whereever he goes. GO ALEX! GO HAWAII FIVE 0! WE LOVE YOU! lOVE FROM SUZANNE HIS FOREVER FAN.

    1. I don’t think this is a blow or a bad article to Hawaii Five-O. It is a way that people watch television and how it is taken into account. Hawaii Five-O is doing well and keeping hold of its timeslot despite Castle (which I’ve never seen) and football (which I avoid like the plague!) This article doesn’t put down Five-O but explains how ratings are done whether we see the actual show on the night it is on or on a DVR.

It is not an article that upsets me but it is a way that television works and I find that interesting.

I recently was part of a Nielson project and it was funny how much of my responses dealt with what I recorded or watched off of On Demand. I never actually could see a show on the day it was run but I’d see it on a later day from recording it or going to On Demand. Everything still counted for the show I watched but it never seemed to be on the day it was viewed. (This was before Five-O came about so I didn’t get to vote for Five-O in my project).

  16. Loved, loved, loved every minute of Mon’s Hawaii Five-0. Alex was spectacular as usual. I too am a granny of three…but totally obsessed with this charismatic, talented man. So much so that I have recorded every episode and watch them frequently. Have also watched TBUP twice this week and tonite watched Whiteout which was broadcast on one of the HBO channels. I love Alex and everything he has appeared in. Also agree that the music is sometimes too loud in H50 drowning out the dialogue. That happens in a lot of series I have noticed.. Anyway, cheer to all the cast of H50 for a job well done. And let’s keep supporting Alex in all his endeavors. Thanks Tiffany for this opportunity to get more of the details.

  17. Tiffany, you have done well, wish I could give a big kiss on Alex, and tell him how much he is loved by all, and in my prayers that he is always present, sometimes when I’m angry just looking at pictures I downloaded it on the internet and I feel better, who does not like much is my husband is already starting to get jealous.

  18. I just love Hawaii Five O. Alex is of course the best but the rest of the crew are also very good. I especially love the fact that it gives Alex a venue to display many of his talents, i.e. karate, dirt biking, comedic talent, swimming etc.He is definitely the greatest. I watch each episode several times. I think Alex finally has a hit on his hands, especially now that this season has been picked up for a full season. Hopefully it will get picked up for many more.

  19. Oh yes I agree, Alex is the sexiest man on earth. His smile does make me melt. I love H5O and I think it will run for a while. The whole team is good and of course Steve and Dano who make comments to each keep the humor in. Thanks Tiffany for the update. Love ya Alex, you roc.

  20. SERIOUSLY LADIES (CAUSE IT SEEMS WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO MAKE COMMENTS!) GO TO YOUR INTERNET, I HAVE GOGGLE, TYPE IN “CBS COMMENTS” AND IT WILL COME RIGHT UP…..MAKE KNOWN THE TOO MUCH NOISE, NOT ENOUGH TIME TO EVEN HEAR SOME OF ALEX AND “DANNO”S BANTER, LOUD MUSIC, FAST ,FAST ACTION MAKING SENSE OF THE STORY LINE HARD TO FOLLOW AND THE POSSIBILITY OF CUTTING DOWN ON COMMERICIALS (COURSE THAT WILL GO OVER LIKE A LEAD BALLOON…THAT’S THEIR BREAD AND BUTTER@…!!. SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE. HAWAII FIVE O IS TOO PERFECT TO SCREW UP……SUZANNE ALEX’S FOREVER FAN

    1. suzanne faith….went to CBS comments & gave feedback on H 5-O several times. Have voted too on PC awards and hottest cop. Will keep voting for Alex. Thanks to you & Tiffany. LOVE Alex forever…pamela

  21. Nobody else mentioned the fact but the Bass guy Ben’s supposed dad, was Hercules. I used to love that show Hercules and also Zena. It just shows how long agao they were made.
Love show. I have to watch on the internet, not on over here yet. So no ads, and I also have no problem hearing what they say.
I am loving that each week we learn a little bit of back story for each of the crew. It was Kono’s turn this week, when she meets an old flame.
Certainly plenty of action. Every show’s got to have a few quiet moments to meld the story.
Anybody know how many eps to the season? Some shows have as few as 13 (3r’s) others many more. Moonlight (16) Some even have 22 (Vampire Diaries)
By the way guys, if you loved 3R’s. You can got to Amazon and put in a request for them to tell you when DVD is available. They might be waiting to see demand before pushing for one to be made. That is after all how Moonlight DVD got to be. (also made top selling DVD for a show)

    1. Sandra Fegan, Got ML DVD as soon as it was avalible. Have been watching it whenever CBS runs reruns. Will get 3R’s too…pamela

  22. Loved the action, some parts just a little slow at times but overall, action packed. I agree with all of you – the 10 minutes worth of back to back commercials and advertisements at the bottom of the screen are becoming annoying – I realize that commercials mean $$$$$ but c’mon – space them out a little bit more. Back to Alex – just keeps getting better every week – he IS McGarrett 100% – I too am old enough to be his mother and I think there is no one hotter than Alex. Loved the fact that H5-0 has something for everyone, action and a pretty girl for the guys, action and hot eye candy for us gals. I LOVE MONDAY NIGHTS!!!! Thanks Tiffany for the update. 😀

  23. I really am enjoying this show. I think it will really take off when the football is over — very much a guy show.

And as to the commercials, a 1 hour network show is EXACTLY 43 minutes and 13 seconds. They count it down to the second, and it drives the editors CRAZY! What to leave in and what to take out.

    Oy……

  24. I can’t find a single flaw in this show; I love every second and the hour flies. I just ignore the commercials (sorry CBS) and read while they’re on.Alex IS Steve McGarrett (the original guy was a little cheesy).

  25. I also agree with Marlisa. I too am old enough to be his mother. His smile just makes my heart melt. I think his smile is the sexiest thing about him, although he is 100% sexy!

  26. Yes, I agree with Marlisa TOTALLY. I’m old enough to be his mother, but God, Is he gorgeous or what?

  27. for sure another winner and then some… and um, well that of the surfing that they showed.. reminded me of a dear friend of mine. who surf , and ok so I thought they could of gone pro.. and well lets just say it brought back to me happy times.. and yes this um, included that of they well.. lets just say we never gave up sort of speak & yet short /homemade won out. O’ & ocean water very good for sunburn….

this was the bonus of this episode for me…

  28. Cylb: I totally agree with you and have commented other times about the commercials…WAY too many commercials. The show itself probably takes up about 45 minutes or less…I know that’s what they need in revenue but come on, enought already!!! Not enough close ups of Alex and that romantic scene topped the shows as far as I’m concerned in the last couple episodes. Nice that Kono had a “love interest” ..wonder what they will do with Chin and especially Danno! Can’t imagine him trusting a woman for a LONG time. He is such a cutie…they go through their lines so fast sometimes its hard to understand them. AND the background music can drown them out sometimes like they complain about on Greys Anatomy…WE WANT TO HEAR OUR ALEX’S EVERY WORD!!! Love from Suzanne Alex’s Foreer Fan

    1. When you see Hawaii Five-O from the On Demand channel, the episode is 46 minutes long, as the commercials are cut except for one. That is amazing.

I don’t see the need for so many commercials and I really hate them advertising shows at the bottom of the screen while Five-O is in a dramatic scene. These ads are not small either. It is very distracting. 🙁

    2. I agree with the lines being said too fast, if it wasn’t for close caption (which I add to my TV) I would miss most of them. Even with close caption and hearing them also, I miss a lot of the lines (which is upsetting). 👿

    3. I agree with you sometimes it is hard to understand them.

  29. I look forward to every Monday to watch Hawaii Five-0 enjoying each episode. Last night I had wished that the show was more than an hour so more detail could have been layed out concerning the traditions of Hawaii and how they enterplayed in the lives of the natives.. The cast really make the show. There is one difference, no matter how much I enjoy this show, I would not purchase any DVD’s to replay, which I did with Moonlight. I believe H50 is such a hit that it will be picked up for quite a few years. Alex is great in his role.

  30. Alex is such a wonderful actor. Whatever roll he plays, he puts his heart and soul in to that character. I might be a granny of 3 already, but that doesn’t stop me from been totally besotted with him. I think he is absolutely sexy and when he smiles…well i just wanna collapse. Ha! Ha!

  31. This was a good episode but the commercials wiped me out. I’ll tape it tonight from the On Demand channel. There is usually one commercial.

    1. The reason for commercials is the cost of production, plus the actors receive so-so much money to entertain us. They make more per episode than most of us make in a year working full time.

  32. i like that one to i had taped it so i will watych it this moring but what i saw it was a great show
