Hawaii Five-0 1.4 Lanakila Recap

Catherine to Steve: You’re like the good looking guy from high school who knows how cute he is and just won’t take no for an answer.

Lanakila is episode 4 of the new Hawaii Five-o. The drama kicks off with a prison break. Wendell Dawkins is a career criminal who has been a model prisoner for many years. He is set off by some unknown and he escapes after killing three guards. The 5-0 teams quickly discovers that one guard helped to make the escape possible and after a game of b-ball with an inmate Steve is able to figure out that a game show is what set Dawkins off. I liked this as it almost seemed to be a nod to one of my all time favorite movies The Long Kiss Goodnight – aka docile felon goes berserk and escapes after seeing something “disturbing” on TV.

Danno takes a secondary role in this episode as his real life injury has been written into the script. He has torn his ASL due to all of the wild escapades his partner has put him through. Kono and Chin Ho track Dawkins to a public bathroom where he changed clothes and bleached his hair. After viewing the game show they decide that Dawkins must have wanted to steal the million dollar prize winnings of a young women on the show, who also won a trip to Hawaii. They hightail it to the hotel where the young woman and her husband Craig are staying. When they get there they find that Dawkins has shot the woman and kidnapped Craig.

The Five-0 team discovers that Craig is using an alias and used to be Dawkins partner in crime on the mainland; Dawkins thought he’d killed Craig but then learned Craig had moved the money. Dawkins ended up in prison in Hawaii and when he saw Craig on a game show with Dana, he saw his opportunity to get the money back. Five-0 tracks Dawkins to the bank where Craig gets the money; Dawkins shoots Craig and escapes via helicopter, but McGarrett is fast on his trail through the Waikolu Valley.

As a side story we meet Steve’s sister Mary. She has a troubled past and they both have issues stemming from their father’s lack of parental involvement in their lives but the scene at the end where they meet at their father’s grave was very moving. I enjoyed their relationship very much. We also got a set-up for a future romance for Steve with a beautiful brunette named Catherine.

– Mary barking when Steve told her to stay

– The Hawaiian local Steve hired to babysit

– Steve flying a helicopter

LOVED this episode. It was fast paced and riveting and I loved the intro to Steve’s sister and a love interest. I give it 4 out of 4 good looking highschool guys.

Due to time difference, us being 12 to 14 hours ahead of USA times dewpending where you are, also the fact that I have to watch it online it takes a while for me to be able to watch each episode. 6. I too loved the movie “The Long Kiss Goodnight.” Critics didn’t care for it at the time, but I got a big kick out of it. I thought Gena Davis really kicked butt! I’ve been loving Hawaii 5-0. I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed when it premiered, not with this excellent cast, great writing and excellent producers. The highlights you picked, I agree with entirely! I also have been DVRing it and saving it until the whole first season comes out next year on DVD! I especially like (besides drooling at Alex, of course) the character development going on – McGarrett with his troubled sister and their dysfunctional relationship with their late dad, Dano with his child custody and divorce issues, Chin-Ho with his being set up that got him kicked off the police force, etc. Thanks once again for keeping all informed and that’s okay if it arrives a bit later. I’d much rather have you blog about it than some beeyotch!
