For weeks now I have been getting more excited about Hawaii Five-O as some of my favorite stars and other well know Sci-Fi darlings have been cast in lead roles. When they cast Grace Park of Battlelstar Galactica and Daniel Dae Kim of LOST I was clapping because I know how well loved these actors are in the Sci-Fi genre and big name stars mean more fans watching, which is good for everyone. When they cast Scott Caan as Danno I was hollering yet again because I am a big fan. But the latest two additions are the best yet IMO… William Sadler, who you may remember as Alex’s creepy Uncle on Three Rivers, but whom I will always remember as the Sheriff from Roswell (yes more Sci-Fi) will be playing Alex’s father.
AND the VERY BEST NEWS (for me at least) is the casting of another sci-fi great and someone who I am just as crazy about as Alex.. James Marsters.. aka Spike from Buffy!!!! He has also done some other awesome work in Smallville, Torchwood, and Caprica. I think the Sci-Fi crowd is going to have a hard time staying away from all this talent… yowsa!
Honestly if Alex wasn’t cast I am not sure if I would have watched cause I am not into cop shows but James Martsers would have ensured it and I have a feeling MANY fans will be drawn in by this news. He plays Steve McGarrett’s nemesis, the man who killed his father and no one plays bad like Spike… he is the “big bad” after all.
Already we are seeing a bunch of online TV review sites claiming that Hawaii Five-O is now being eagerly anticipated. Take Bob Starr for instance:
When I first heard Hawaii Five-O was getting the remake treatment I wasn’t that interested. I only vaguely remembered the original series and it was one step closer to rebooting Magnum P.I. (how sacrilegious would will that be?) in my opinion. However, I’ve begun to shift in the other direction regarding this series as more casting news comes out.
At this point it seems producers Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers, Fringe) are trying to capture the geek community for the new show. Marsters joins a cast that encapsulates geek programming; Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost), Jean Smart (24), and Alex O’Loughlin (Moonlight) are already on deck. With Scott Caan on board as well suddenly Hawaii Five-O is a show I can start to get behind.
All I can say is that I lept out of my chair hooting and hollering when I found out James Marsters was cast… any day where I can see Alex AND James is a very, very good day.
Two of my favorite vampires together at last…
